Celebrating Father’s Day differently

May 31, 2024

It can be easy to let the busy summer months mask hard feelings or memories that Father’s Day can bring up, but there are ways that you can celebrate Father’s Day, even in you’re grieving.

Do Things That He Loved

Spend some time doing things that your dad loved, or things that you would do together, as a way to keep him close. That could be working in the garden, going for a drive, or spending time in a place that he loved.

Avoid Social Media

Sometimes watching people share their highlight reel memories on Father’s Day can be triggering. Spend some time away from Social Media, unplug, and make more memories to share with the ones you love.

Talk About Him

If you feel like you are trying to avoid talking about your dad, but are being filled with memories, that is your sign that it is time to share your feelings with those around you. Share your favourite memories with those that loved your dad too!

Remember You Are Not Alone

Father’s Day is tricky for a lot of people for a lot of different reasons. If you are feeling overwhelmed with grief, memories, or hard feelings, remember that you are not the only person that feels these things, and reach out to someone for support.
